Weekend Wrap-up: Military Personal Finance Articles You Should Read (3/4-3/10)

Weekend 2Enjoy this edition of “Military Personal Finance Articles You Should Read.” This blog entry only serves to summarize some of the previous week’s best personal finance articles, blog posts, and other content from a variety of sources so that you don’t have to. The intent isn’t for you to read every single article (although you’re a superstar if you do), but it’s to curate a lot of content into one easily digestible article that allows you to pick and choose the content you want.

This issue starts with a ‘must-read’ article about IRS phone scams, and why we fall for them.

From there, we have a couple of Q&A articles on estate planning, including:

We also have tips on talking with your insurance company after a car accident (I once had to advise someone to stop talking when he rear-ended me at a stop light, since wanted to go on and on about how he’d been meaning to get his brakes fixed and never got around to it).

From our military personal financial bloggers, we have:

  • Doug Nordman’s article on portable careers for military spouses
  • Ryan Guina’s plan to use the combined GI Bill & 529 plans to fund his children’s education
  • Kate Horrell’s articles on how to retrieve your 1099-Rs from DFAS and clarification on when you can break a lease under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act

Also this week from Kate is the Ultimate PCS Guide to Packing Out, so don’t miss it! If you missed this week’s Military in Transition Articles, please check out check out why you should care about estate planning and separation leave considerations.

We wrap up with a couple of Jeff Rose articles:

Hope you enjoy the content!
